The Grand Traverse Chorus is Traverse City's oldest vocal ensemble for women. Its purpose is to provide opportunity for women to sing, learn about music, and promote the barbershop musical style.
In the 2009 Region 2 Competition, our chorus placed 3rd in Division AA (those choruses with 31 to 60 singers onstage) and 6th of 20 competing choruses. In 2008 our chorus sponsored the second TC Idol contest, with five young finalists appearing in our annual show, last September. Since then, we've added several new members to the risers, we brought Christmas cheer to assisted living facilities, and sold out our Singing Valentines. We're all looking forward to singing and improving our musical skills in the coming months, adding new members, and bringing the joy of music to many people.
Our medalist quartet, Sashay, has had an unpredictable year including major health issues for tenor, Cam Lacy. Thankfully, she's on the road to recovery and expects to be singing soon! With International Champion, Queen Kendra LaPointe stepping into the quartet for this year’s regional competition, Sashay earned a 4th place medal! It was a treat to see and hear them perform. Congratulations to Kendra, Deb, Marie, and Jill. Sashay and GTC look forward to welcoming Cam back to her tenor spot as soon as she's able!
